Teacher to Start Browns on a High Note Sunday

APS Brian Johnson to deliver at Steelers game

It's Brian Johnson's big day, and he'll be giving US a gift. Brian, a veteran of 32 years of teaching in Akron Public School has sung all over the world.  He is a trained opera singer and teaches music at Findley CLC .  His students are in kindergarten through fifth grade.

As part of Akron Public Schools and the Cleveland Browns partnership in the Stay in the Game attendance initiative, we are having weeklong activities leading up to the Browns/Steelers game this Sunday.

APS is proud to announce that Brian has been asked to sing the National Anthem at this week's Cleveland Browns game.  He has sung it for the Browns twice before in a quartet representing Cleveland Opera, but this is his first time singing as a solo artist.

In addition to teaching music for us, he has been a professional opera singer for the past 35 years.  Dawn Wilson, coordinator of music and art for APS set up the Browns audition for Brian, and the Browns LOVED it.

We’re including in this Brian’s opera credentials as well and the audition video that got him noticed by the Browns.

As of right now, we don’t know if the anthem will be included in the game’s broadcast, but we certainly hope the folks at CBS see the wisdom in including Brian Johnson! He is a treasure to our community.
